Rattling Creek Kicks Azz

Saturday was gonna be HOT. So a small, clandestine group of (supposedly) smart people decided we should ride early to beat the heat and everyone agreed.

The trails at Rattling Creek are a blast. In fact, Rattling Creek trail is probably one of the best trails I've ridden in this area. Its long, flowy, scenic and fun. The rest of the trails there are great too. Not the constant tech of Michaux, but with a good number of rock gardens and coolazz rocky bridge stuff to ride.

Of course the ONLY reason we all ride is for the fitness. We stick to a strict diet and nutrition program that many others just can't handle.

Because it was so hot I tried talking everyone into doing a topless lap, but we only had one taker...

Great trails, great company, good beer AND a stop at ABC brewery on the way home made for an awesome Saturday.

The heat didn't kill us so let's do it again soon, shall we?

Why you should always travel with two helmets

So, let's just say that you're in a far away land full of beer and honey. You buy this awesome growler to share some fresh handcraft beer with family and have an awesome time drinking and sharing old stories. Two days later, it's time to go home but (dun..dun..dun) how are you going to pack that growler in your luggage to ensure it's safe arrival back home? What to do?

If you only came prepared with one helmet, you can certainly ensure half of it's safety while packing clothing on the other side and hope that it doesn't shift around when those luggage monkeys slam your heavy suitcase at the airport multiple times.

But if you have two you know you're growler will arrive safe, completely unharmed because it was protected by the same loving Styrofoam that keeps your noggin safe while you ride.

On the other hand, wrapping a few singles is much easier. All you need is a beach towel or two.

So make sure you always keep in mind when you're traveling how your beer will get home safely. Until next time, keep riding and always enjoy good beer!

Desert Ride

It was a hot sunny day in southern CA. My brothers and I went to down town San Diego where we rented 'mountain' bikes. They ended up being 26" Diamond back pieces of crap but what can one expect for $25. We headed down the road to Mission Trails Regional Park . We started out looking for the BMX track which ended up being pretty neat except for the over grown parts.

The desert might not have any roots, but what it has instead is a bunch of washed out areas that can be just as tricky to ride, but you never have to worry about them being slippery! Then we crossed the San Diego river which looked more like a stream after which I saw my first and only desert log.
Then we had a terrible climb where I almost killed my oldest brother. When he said he felt dizzy I knew it was time to take a break! The sun was so hot they both turned into shieks to keep the sun off their necks. After that there was an awesome down hill with dips! A little scary on the piece of crap we were riding but tons of fun when my back tire wasn't skidding out from under me. I only fell off my bike once but my oldest brother drew first blood when he fell off his! Then we took a trail that was designated for hiking only (shhhh) That was the most fun we found awesome single track with a few rocks and yes...roots! In addition we saw several geckos and a scary 4ft snake. I tried to get a picture but it slithered away too fast. Over all it was a fun ride and now I can say I rode in a desert!

New Toy

Sad thing is this cost less than my mountain bike, is that retarded or what. I'm trying to figure out how to put a bike rack on it.

Raystown

The original plan for this weekend was a camping/biking trip to Raystown. Well, things change. But Jody, Steph and I said 'fuck it' and decided to go up for a day trip today. The weather was supposed to be gorgeous and it definitely didn't disappoint.

By the time we found our way to Raystown it was about 11 a.m. and the weather was perfect. The Allegrippis trails reminded me of a giant pump track in the woods interspersed with short, punchy climbs. The trails are smooth as butter with nary a rock or log to be found. You can get moving incredibly fast through the trails and you have to be careful flying around the blind turns. Your tires can leave the ground almost any time you choose with the constant rollers.

Oh and beware of the dips!

The trails are great for putting together loops and there are plenty of places to stop and drink beer along the way. We rode for a little more than 4 hours and probably got in 20+ miles looping around the north end trails.

It's not the kind of place I would want to ride every weekend - it's not the ever present technical challenge of Michaux. But for a fun place to ride and drink beer a couple times a summer - I'd say it can't be beat.

This is not MY blog

Just so we're clear. This is NOT my blog. I am NOT the owner. I am merely a beer loving mammal that rides bikes in the woods and plans to post semi-offensive scribblings here ever so often along with my partners in crime.

Sometimes I ride bikes on the road too, but not that often cuz roadies are ghey and they don't drink nearly as much beer. You may say I am stereotyping, but when is the last time you were on a road ride that involved beer? Oh, and if you were on a road ride that involved beer, I bet it was with mountain bikers...

MacGuyver that shit - then drink beer

Last night's good ride ALMOST ended with no beer!

Jody happened to lock his keys in his truck along with his camelbak before the ride. Since he's got his priorities straight, we decided to ride anyway and worry about getting the keys later.

Some initial bushwhacking ensued trying to find some recently reopened trails around Mont Alto. Conditions were good and the trails were riding great. I busted out the fully suspended and geared stumphumper for the first time since Turkey Day. That bike still rips singletrack! And riding full suspension felt like sitting on a couch and floating through the woods.

Toward the end of the ride I started to get thirsty, and then the cold, dark reality of truth hit me. Not only were Jody's pack and keys locked in the truck, but so was the BEER! Panic ensued.

Upon arriving back at the lot the mind started turning. In true clownbike style Jody initially considered smashing the already cracked windshield to get into the vehicle.

But then the MacGuyver shit started. Nick "just happened to have" some superglue in his pack. With the superglue, some wood pieces as wedges and the trucks antenna we attempted in vain to grab the lock and pull it up. Finally MacGuyver Nick pulled a kite frame out of his car and we filled the end with superglue. This did the trick. 5minutes of set time and the door was open.

And then this good ride ended with beer. Victory Hop Devil to be specific...

bring on the bacon

now we have a place to post fun rides and make bacon jokes.
